Jim Howe and Horsepower for Kids

Jim Howe founded Horsepower for Kids in Crossville, Tennessee. The nonprofit takes the Howe Motorsports team into schools with a simple brief: follow your lane, learn a trade, and do not quit when a pass goes red.

Howe is a world champion drag racer and a television personality from Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws. He drives The Gaurdian, a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, on Street Outlaws and No Prep Kings. Gaurdian 2 is being built now. The name is for his daughter Sienna. After her passing in 2022, Howe kept the family on the road and put her legacy into the car and into this charity.

Amanda Howe races, crews, and works the school days and the kids’ program with him. Their son Jimmy Howe races the team’s cars and works with the kids the same way. Garrett Barker is part of that crew — racing, wrenching, Owner of Garretts Garage , he lays down the paint on all the cars and standing with the kids when Horsepower for Kids is on the ground.

When the cars come to various towns across the nation, kids get pit access. On the road, Horsepower for Kids and Howe Motorsports work with Best Day Foundation — special-needs kids in the pits, including a day at Virginia Motorsports Park — and with A Soldier’s Child Foundation, bringing Gold Star families to the track.

Three generations stand in the same shop. Jim Howe Sr. raced out of Detroit and later owned I-40 Dragway in Crossville. Blayze is next.
